THE BLOOMINGTON ACADEMY OF FILM AND THEATRE

The Bloomington Academy of Theatre and Film (BAFT) seeks to establish itself as Indiana’s premier performing arts training institution. The classes will be geared toward area youth and adults seeking training in acting, voice, dance, musical theatre and film at all levels of experience, age, ability, and interest.  The course offerings will be diverse in discipline and follow a logical progression, allowing students to begin training easily and advance quickly in any area focus.  

 

Training offerings will include will include:

MASTER CLASSES: One time, seminar style classes held by visiting artists from the professional industry.  

WORKSHOPS: Full day workshops offered over a period of weeks particularly in the summer session. 

PRIVATE LESSONS: One-on-one coaching in the areas of acting, voice, and dance.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS 

ACTING 

Adult Acting 1: Acting Technique:  “An introduction to the building blocks of foundational acting technique; focus, imagination, activity, partnering, body and text work.”

 

Adult Acting 2: Scene Study:  “Building on the foundation of Acting Technique, Scene Study focuses on the application of acting skills to the development of a role in a scripted play with greater emphasis on the action, objective, obstacle, and character development.”

Teen/Adult: Shakespeare Studies: “A literary introduction to the works of the world’s most produced playwright, this non-performance classes focuses on the dramatic and poetic techniques of Shakespeare as a foundation of understanding for performers and enthusiasts alike.”

 

Teen/Adult: Shakespeare in Performance: “An extension of Shakespeare Studies, In Performance continues the lessons from the “page to the stage” by incorporating body, breath, and text work to the performance of Shakespeare monologues and scenes.”

 

Youth: Intro to Storytelling: “As the core foundational class for BATF, Intro to Storytelling strives to set budding theatre and film artists (performers and non-performers) on a productive and fruitful artistic path.  Young students learn the importance and necessity of good storytelling through a focus on writing and oral and visual expression.”


 

Youth: Intro to Performance: As an extension of Intro to Storytelling, this class helps to promote healthy forms of self-expression through performing, in the self-obsessed era of YouTube and Instagram.

     

DANCE 

Adult/Teen: Mixed Dance 1: (Description: Ballet/Jazz) Foundational dance technique at the beginner/intermediate level.  Classes will include an rejuvenating warmup of stretching, body work, and movement across the floor, work on foundational technique of jazz dance and ballet, and finish with an fun and athletic piece of group choreography.

VOICE 

Adult: Group Voice 1:  Group Voice focuses on “pre-musical” techniques for healthy use of the voice in both speaking and singing.  Students learn the basics of vocal anatomy, bodywork, breath “support,” phonation, resonation, articulation, and communication through text and tone.

Adult: Group Voice 2: Group Voice 2 carries the foundation of Voice 1 into singing technique and the basics of music theory and ensemble singing.

Youth: Group Voice 2: Group Voice 2 for young people establishes the foundations for healthy singing technique and basics for learning how to read and interpret written music.

MUSICAL THEATRE 

Adult/Teen: Musical Theatre Workshop 1:  MT Workshop is a master-class setting designed for intermediate to advanced performers and focuses on techniques of solo performance and audition technique.
